Dear HOMER Users:

We know you've all been waiting for an upgrade of HOMER and we agree that it's time! After over a year of development, we are close to releasing the next generation of hybrid renewable design software.

In the coming months, we will be releasing an entirely new suite of of HOMER versions designed to meet your newest challenges for hybrid renewable systems. The new HOMER software incorporates over a decade of user requests and input, as well as requests from our consulting clients on what you want in world-class microgrid optimization software.

The new HOMER suite will be based on the same robust, rock solid HOMER engine that's become an industry standard, but with an improved interface and much greater flexibility for viewing and manipulating results. The new software architecture will also allow us to release a Mac version in 2011.

We hope to have a Preview version available for a group of users we're choosing to represent a broad cross section of HOMER use cases in about 6 weeks. Preview users who complete our feedback surveys will receive discounts on the new software and will also be entered into a drawing for a 1-year free license.

If you'd like to participate in the Preview, please apply at http://www.homerenergy.com/preview.html. We would like to have a broad array of users and systems so please sign up.

Thanks for your support.

HOMER Powers Rural Health Clinics
HOMER Energy: Rural Health Clinic
Solar-powered rural health clinic

Rural health clinics in developing countries are experiencing new demands for reliable electricity due to improvements in the availability of vaccines and the urgency of providing services to HIV-positive patients. Vaccines and the antiretroviral drugs needed for HIV treatments are "cold chain-dependent," requiring constant refrigeration and a reliable source of electricity.

Many rural health clinics either have no access to an electric grid, or are connected to grids with unreliable performance. Many have generators which require potentially expensive fuels and trained maintenance personnel. To help rural health clinics estimate their electricity requirements and build reliable hybrid renewable systems, HOMER Energy has built a simplified interface to HOMER and designed it into an online tool that delivers valuable information within minutes. Sponsored by the US Agency for International Development, the program is called "Powering Health." Learn more and try the tool

HOMER Tip: Comparing files

Users often create multiple, somewhat similar HOMER files when working on a project. It can be confusing when you need to look back at these files. HOMER software has a built-in solution to help. First, open the file that you would like to compare. Then, under the File menu, select "File Compare..." and select the second file to compare against the first. A window will appear describing all of the input differences between the files.
