How does HOMER calculate the amount of waste heat from the generators?

HOMER does report the quantity of excess electricity that serves the thermal load.  That appears on the Thermal tab of the Simulation Results window.  But it does not report the cost savings resulting from the application of the excess electricity to the thermal load.  To determine that, you would have to model the system with and without the ability to apply excess electricity to the dump load, and compare the costs.
