Linear Fuel Curve

How much of an approximation is assuming a linear fuel curve?

For typical constant-speed internal combustion generators or microturbines, it's a very good assumption.  For fuel cells or variable-speed diesels, it's not quite as good, but still acceptable in most circumstances.  In almost every situation, the uncertainty in key input values (load size, interest rate and fuel price over the project lifetime) will swamp the errors associated with simplified component models.
