Modeling Unreliable Grids

Product: HOMER Pro Advanced Grid module

HOMER Pro’s Advanced Grid module enables users to model unreliable grids. Click on the "Grid" button in the Components ribbon. Under Scheduled Rates, select the "Reliability" tab and for Choose Data Source, choose the radio button for "Enter outage parameters."

The green grid on the right is used to model Scheduled Outages for areas where scheduled outages are a way of life. HOMER Pro users can specify outage times by time of day and month. Scheduled times may also be set for All Week, Weekdays, or Weekends.

In addition, the Random failures area on the left creates random outages based on the following parameters:

·         Mean failure frequency refers to the number of outages experienced per year.
·         Use Mean repair time to enter the average outage duration.
·         Use Repair time variability to vary the length of outages.

The bottom of the advanced grid window shows users the random and scheduled outages modeled by the system. Users may import a grid reliability file specifying the actual outage times by following the HOMER import process used for any time series file.
