Using HOMER Optimizer™ for More Effective Modeling
Product: All versions of HOMER Pro
HOMER Pro’s Optimizer offers a useful alternative to HOMER’s Search Space. When using the Search Space, HOMER only considers the sizes of components that the user has specified. The Optimizer lets HOMER find the optimal sizes for system components. This is particularly helpful in early stage modeling, when users often have no idea what sizes they should be considering (which is why they are using HOMER in the first place).
Clicking the small star on the search space section of the component input screen (star turns orange) enables the HOMER Optimizer:
Rather than explicitly selecting sizes that you wish to consider, the Optimizer only needs a lower and upper limit. We strongly recommend zero as the lower limit and suggest using an upper limit that is much greater than what you believe will be necessary. The HOMER Optimizer is smart enough to quickly move away from bad design choices.
The HOMER Optimizer minimizes user error and finds the optimal sizing much faster than with the Search Space. We still recommend the Search Space when there are specific design choices that you want to compare.
